JIJI~~~

Jiji was born January 14, 2025!

He is a lineolated parakeet <3

He is still very timid and shy and does not like hands.  He likes chewing on his toys and listening to jazz / orchestral music

VERY IMPORTANT:

NEVER!!!! Smoke, vape, spray any perfume, aerosol, etc, or cook with non-stick in the apartment at all with Jiji - this includes rice cookers with non-stick, coffee machines, etc.  Spray perfume or vape, etc.  once you are outside the door and it is closed firmly.

Doing this can and will kill parrots as their lungs are very sensitive.

Care notes:

Sun lamp

7-8 AM turn on

7-8 PM turn off and cover his cage with his night time cloth UNLESS the room will already be dark.  This is in case you want to continue to hang out in the same room and keep some lights on.

Water

Cleaned metal bowl with fresh water every morning and change in the afternoon if needed -

Refresh if you see any poop or debris in the water

Dry food

1 heaping scoop in the morning in plastic bowl

Refresh if you see any poop in the bowl

Treats

Millet - This is his FAVORITE treat but please feed sparingly and only with your fingers (to train him to like your hand) - 1 ‘nugget’ ripped off the millet will suffice, or you can hold up a piece to him and let him chew on it for a few minutes

Fresh food

Recommended daily, but can be every other day if busy~

Please use a clean metal bowl each time

He enjoys:

Bok choy, bell pepper, mini sweet pepper, broccoli, kale, cucumber

Notes: Only a small amount is needed, for example, I will buy 1 head of bok choy and break off one piece to give him per day

Fruit: Apple can be given sparingly as a treat - he loves apple!  (a very small piece)

Bath

Mist bath 1x / week

It’s best to do this during the day time when you see him preening - if he wants to bathe, he will begin to flap his wings and stay in the mist.  Continue to mist at least 10x, he will sort of slow down the flapping when he’s finished.

Note: If he does not want to bathe, he will scoot away.

Cage lining

Change every couple of days or as needed - change more frequently if there are pieces of fresh food at the bottom and please remove any fresh food items stuck at the bottom of the cage so they do not rot.
