JIJI~~~

Jiji ~~~ was born January 14, 2025!

He is a lineolated parakeet <3

He is still very timid and shy and does not like hands.  He likes chewing on his toys and listening to jazz / orchestral music

VERY IMPORTANT:

NEVER!!!! Smoke, vape, spray any perfume, aerosol, etc, or cook with non-stick in the apartment at all (This includes rice cookers with non-stick, coffee machines, etc.)

Doing this can and will kill parrots as their lungs are very sensitive.

Spray perfume or vape once you are outside the door and it is closed firmly.

Care notes:

Sun lamp

7-8 AM turn on

7-8 PM turn off and cover his cage with his night time cloth UNLESS the room will already be dark.  This is in case you want to continue to hang out in the same room and keep some lights on. (Parrots need 12-14 hours of uninterrupted sleep)

Water

Cleaned metal bowl with fresh water every morning and change in the afternoon if needed -

Refresh if you see any poop or debris in the water

Dry food

1 heaping scoop in the morning in plastic bowl

Refresh if you see any poop in the bowl

Treats

Millet - This is his FAVORITE treat but please feed sparingly.
1 ‘nugget’ ripped off the stem (See photo below)
You can hold up a piece to him and let him chew on it for a few minutes.

Fruit: Apple, pear, Melon, watermelon, strawberries, orange can be given sparingly as a treat - he loves fruit!  (a very small piece, please remove within 1-2 hours)

Fresh food

Please use a clean metal bowl each time and remove within a couple hours

ORGANIC (Pesticide free)
Bell pepper, mini sweet pepper, lettuce, kale, cucumber

Notes: Only a small amount is needed since he is so small!
Think 4-5 pieces about half inch cube

Bath

Mist bath 1x / week (mist bottle provided under cage)

It’s best to do this during the day time when you see him preening - if he wants to bathe, he will begin to flap his wings and stay in the mist.  Continue to mist at least 10x, he will sort of slow down the flapping when he’s finished.

Note: If he does not want to bathe, he will scoot away.

Cage lining (provided under cage)

Change every couple of days or as needed - change more frequently if there are pieces of fresh food at the bottom and please remove any fresh food items stuck at the bottom of the cage so they do not rot.

DOGS~~~

1-2 treats per day, per dog

Walk 2-4x / day

Please wipe all their paws with wipes after walks ~

Sleep

Guero likes to sleep on his own! He will cuddle with you until you stop petting him.

Dog park

Guero can only be allowed into the ‘small’ dog park - available at Tompkins Square Park in E Village

Interactions w/ other dogs

Guero can be a little barky and weird if he isn’t allowed to say hi, but he’s easy to maneuver away from them. Please be discerning when allowing him to interact with larger dogs.

Walks

Guero can handle walks up to 30 minutes.
